Plashy Fen: the soundtrack

I’ve compiled a playlist of 50 songs to accompany my new novel.

Music is vital for me to function with any enthusiasm, whether it’s doing something creative or cleaning the bathroom. Thinking about it, this could well be a way of masking my tinnitus.

But – as I’ve mentioned before – I always listen to instrumental music when I’m writing.

Lyrics get in the way of my flow. But give me classical, electronic or ambient tracks and I can disappear within my own head to another place.

There are lyrics a-plenty in Plashy Fen playlist, however, because it was put together to reflect some of the themes, characters and storylines in the book.

It was great fun putting it together, and I got to discover new music, too.

One of the first tracks is by the indie band Stornoway. One of the members is the son of friends in Lush Places.

The last track on the playlist is by The Staves. It’s for my brother’s daughters, who grew up – quite literally – with the exquisite singers as they met as young children.

The Plashy Fen playlist is a mix of folk, light pop and a bit of classical.

It was put together on Spotify before I jettisoned that streaming platform because of the way it rewards (or doesn’t) its artists through the royalty system.

I’ve now joined Deezer, a French music streaming service, and have been able to transfer the entire playlist – bar one or two songs, which I’ve replaced with something else – from Spotify.

I still have the free version of Spotify so if you want the playlist from there, here’s the link: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2mYVwDxAUKvUB47KxJCnCj?si=dc6f1b4e24214e00

I hope you like it.

Have a great week.
